About Worship at FPCV

A Note for First Time Visitors:
Worship at First Presbyterian Church in Victor (FPCV) is integral to deepening our spiritual well being and our relationship with the Divine. We believe that we have been called to be this community of faith, in this time and place, and that each person that attends our service in person or online is truly meant to be there.  As an open and affirming congregation, no matter who you are or how you have found us, you are not just welcomed at FPCV, your presence is a gift and we trust that you are indeed meant to be with us, even if you are only passing through for one Sunday.

Members describe our time together on Sunday like getting to reconnect with old friends each and every week. We strive to allow worship to reflect the fullness of our human experience, with opportunities for joy and laughter as well as room for tears and frustrations. We root ourselves in ancient liturgical forms while always seeking to keep the message one that speaks to today's world. While rooted in ancient forms, we still seek to make space for the Holy Spirit and cultivate a time that connects directly with those participating in worship, allowing for both vulnerability and silliness.  We also believe that worship should challenge us and get us to think about things in different ways, knowing that the Kingdom of God we seek often subverts the way we see the world around us. At its best, our Worship hopes to help our community of faith move past dualistic and bifurcated thinking towards a non-dualist, yes...and way of seeing the world. Above all, we view worship as one of the primary ways we strengthen our connection with God and with each other.
Honoring our reformed theological traditions, Worship at FPCV is centered around the sharing of the Word of God through scripture and preaching. Preaching at FPCV is meant to be a conversation starter, not a conversation ender, where hopefully during fellowship following worship you can think out loud with others, sharing and learning from one another. We believe that the best sermons are the ones that get your thinking and asking lots of questions.  Prayer, music and sacraments also play key roles in our worship, as each helps us to more deeply connect with each other and with God.

If you are a guest, your presence is your gift. No monetary contribution is necessary.

Music in Worship

Our choir provides special music once a month, usually on the first Sunday of the month.  Anthems range from American gospel, through standard choir anthems, to light classical works. The choir rehearses on Sunday mornings before worship from 9:20-9:45 the last two and first Sundays of the month from September through June.  Please join us! Anyone who wishes to glorify God through song is welcome.

We have a small but delightful pipe organ, originally installed in the 1800’s but several times refurbished and rebuilt. Also contained within the organ chamber are the Busch Memorial Chimes, which were installed in 1946 in memory of Pvt. 1st class Richard Busch, who died in service to our country during World War II. The money for these chimes was raised by the whole Victor community, not just our church. We honor our past by including them in our worship.

Ayn Patrowicz has been our accompanist since 2002.

Music is a great way to help deepen one's spirutal experience during worship. It is an opporunity to literally join our voices together and be one. It is not suprising then that here at First Presbyterian Church in Victor we strive to make sure music is an important and integral part of our experience as a community. Both traditional and contemporary hymns and music styles are present in our worship services. Services usually include both organ and piano. We welcome vocalists (soloists, duets, or larger groups) and instrumentalists to share their musical gifts with us!

Children in Worship

Children are welcome to participate in worship with their families at all times. Most Sundays there is a special “Children’s Time” education opportunity lead by the pastors during worship.

For babes in arms, there is an Infant Care Room at the rear of the sanctuary (at the top of the east stairs, to the right as you face the back of the church).  This room has a crib, a changing station, infant toys, and comfortable chairs.  It is wired for sound and has a large window so that you can see and hear the service as you stay with your child. There is also a nursery room out the front of the sanctuary in a small classroom.

Mobility Impaired?

One of the goals of our most recent renovation was to make our church completely accessible to those with mobility limitations. An elevator takes you to both floors, and there are ramps and accessible restrooms everywhere you need them. Enter the church from the rear entrance (by the parking lot) and the elevator is to your right, which will take you to the sanctuary level.
