Message: “Contradictions and Paradoxes” Rev. Michael McNamara

Zephaniah speaks with comforting and affirming words, while John the Baptist calls out the crowds and calls them "baby vipers" (literal translation). Why does the journey of faith sometimes come with confidence and ease, while during others, it feels difficult and challenging. Just as God is born, through Jesus, into a challenging situation(in a barn, surrounded by farm animals), so is our faith. Sometimes it feels like we need to smooth over the contradictions and make it all more approachable, but part of preparing for the coming of God into the world is a willingness to stand humbly before the apparent contradictions and paradoxes, finding God in the mix of it all.
