Over the last 2000 years, the story of Jesus' birth has turned the Magi into Kings. This is most likely a result of Psalm 72, which contains a verse that Matthew is referencing. But Matthew makes it clear that these are not Kings, so who are the Magi, and why does Matthew include this account in the birth narrative when no one else does? And why is our reading on Epiphany?
